Land values are at a premium in the Lower Mainland and consequently development has pushed out to the outlying areas where the topography is more challenging.
The landslides which occurred in the Lower Mainland in 2007 resulted in a renewed commitment from engineering professionals and the local and provincial governments in providing the public with services and assurance that the land is safe for residential development.
In May 2008 the Association of Profession Engineers of B.C. (APEGBC) and the province of British Columbia published a task force report titled “Guidelines for Legislated Landslide Assessment for Proposed Residential Developments in B.C.“. This report provides the engineering community and local governments with a framework from which to work from to assess the safety of a property for development and to identify where there is a landslide risk.
Davies Geotechnical Inc. have completed numerous of these landslide assessments for our clients and has provided guidance with respect to landslide risk as well as remedial solutions to reduce the landslide risk on numerous properties.
